Professor Emeritus Lakshman `Sam` Samaranayake is a renowned clinical academic with expertise in clinical microbiology and executive level administration. The author of many seminal texts, and over 450 scientific communications – cited over 31,500 occasions (h-index 98), he has served over 13 years as the Executive Dean of dental schools in Hong Kong, Australia and UAE. He has received numerous prestigious accolades for his exceptional contributions to dentistry, including the King James IV Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, the Distinguished Scientist Award of IADR, USA, and a honorary DSc (honoris causa) from the Peradeniya University, Sri Lanka. Professor Samaranayake holds many visiting/adjunct professoriate appointments at universities of Australia, China, Middle East, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of the International Dental Journal, the flagship journal of the FDI World Dental Federation.
